NYSILC HOSTS FIRST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S DAY

ALBANY, NY - NYSILC hosted its first Executive Director's Day on April 10, 2000. Representatives from twenty-seven different centers attended the event. The primary purpose was to review and distribute the statewide Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaigns for the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act (TWWIIA) of 1999 and "Independent Living...Life is what you make it!" Every center and satellite location in New York State received individually tagged media kits that included television, radio, and newsprint products for both PSAs. Pepe Productions located in Glens Falls, New York created the campaigns. NYSILC thanks VESID, AILCNY, and COIL for their sponsorships.

In addition, NYSILC took the opportunity to initiate its "Champions Tour." Gold medals were distributed to centers, which will be awarded to members of the New York State Congressional Delegation for the passage of TWWIIA. Centers will be responsible for coordinating local events and media coverage. Last, the day concluded with a legislative update and facilitated discussions on the potential of a statewide systems advocacy network and outcome measures to assess the impact of IL services. Refer to the TWWIIA and IL storyboards for examples of the television PSAs.

President Clinton signed the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act on December 17, 1999.

The Act is designed to eliminate health care barriers and Social Security disincentives for people with disabilities who want to work.

Each state has the opportunity to develop a Medicaid Buy-In program responsive to the needs of its residents.
