August 15, 2007

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your summer. We had our first successful round of conference calls and we are preparing for our second round. I have enclosed minutes from he past meetings.

Feel free to join in any of the calls you would like. Feel free to send this e-mail to others who may be interested.

The Public Education Committee is holding a train the trainer called Go Vote. This is a national training geared to teach individuals with disabilities the many aspects of voting. This training will allow you to teach the program to others. It can come in handy at conferences and workshops. The training will be held in Utica on Thursday August 16th. The flyer is attached above. The contact information is in the flyer. We have 20 spaces available. There is a cost of $10.00 for lunch.

Also a reminder-our advocacy DVD on HAVA is available. If you have a group you would like to show it to let me know. We are in the process of getting it on our website.

In other news S6311-the Polling Site Access bill has Senator Larkin as a sponsor, Senator Maziarz as a co-sponsor and Assembly Cahill has modified his polling place access bill to be a same the same as the Larkin Bill. To this date this information has not been updated on the Assembly website.

You may have received our action alerts. Please send the last action alert to your network. We have made great progress in convincing the NYSBOE to rescind the Republican proposal for rolling out the plan B or Accessible voting machines. We feel additional letters will be helpful.. If you have any questions, please e-mail me.

In order to make this coalition more interactive and to get people involved, we are starting a NYDGEVA yahoo group. If you would like to be part of it please send an email to patty@nysilc.org. We are collecting names through August 17th. Then by the end of August we will have the yahoo group set up.

We still need members of the Accessible Voting machine committee. Please RSVP if coming to that meeting.
